Welcome

Hi, and welcome to BattlegroundYorkshire. The intention of BattlegroundYorkshire is to publish and offer guided visits to some of the most important battles in British history, - and some of the lesser known ones too. Everyone's heard of 'Hastings', or 'Culloden' or the 'Battle of Britain', - but what about Fulford?, Stamford Bridge? or Yorks' Air War, which in just one air raid in 1942 killed over 90 people across the city.

This then is my aim, not only to publicise the battles, but also to educate, to initiate further discovery, to show visitors the cause and effects of war on each other, and hopefully to meet people with similiar aims and engage in interesting and rewarding conversations. Living near to Stamford Bridge, East Yorks, means I am on the doorstep of one of the pivotal battles of the three that took place in that historic year of 1066, two of which were here in York.

I created this blog as a gateway to allow people to share their views and passions for the military history shrouding this part of Yorkshire. This is my passion too. Below are the Battles which will be eventually covered by this project. Stamford Bridge is the first to be given priority as it is a bench mark to which all the other battlesites will be measured.
